Worried About AI? Here’s Why Trained Transcriptionists Are Still in Demand

Transcriptionist working from home

AI makes the first draft. A trained transcriptionist makes it usable.

AI tools now create first-draft transcripts for law firms, researchers, and businesses. But those drafts can’t go to clients as-is. They mix up speakers, mishear legal and technical terms, and skip the formatting professional clients require.

Someone trained has to finish the job. That’s exactly what our courses teach you to do: produce accurate, properly formatted transcripts that clients trust.

What Our Students Say

"I purchased this general transcription training course recently to help me get started in a new career and I couldn't be happier with my decision. This is an extremely comprehensive course. There's NOTHING out there like this (believe me, I looked) and it has ALL you need to get started! I highly recommend this course!"
Laura P.Seattle, WA
"After finishing the course, I immediately found work! Funny thing -- I applied at four different places and ended up with five interviews. The first one has kept me busy. I have as much or as little work as I want. I am an independent contractor. They are the best people to work for. They are fun, understanding, AND have plenty of work to keep you busy. There is a test you have to take and you have to pay for your background check, but hey -- as an independent contractor, that is a tax write off!"
Kim L.
"Thank you so much, Janet, for establishing Transcribe Anywhere. I wouldn't be able to become a transcriptionist without your selfless efforts to set up this amazing course. I wish to dedicate my heartfelt gratitude to you and Marsha for guiding all of us in TA. I'm positive there will be a lot more people who aspire to become transcriptionists but have no idea how and where to start. That was me a year ago. Now, I have a career as a professional transcriber. I'm tearing up as I type. Signing up for this course was one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life. Thank you so, so much."
Chiu T.
"I am a homeschooling mom to six cute kiddos and wife to a wonderful husband. I found this transcription course when looking for a way to supplement my husband's income. I was excited to find something I could do that would use some of the skills I've improved upon while teaching my children. The course provided me with exactly what I needed to break into the transcription business. I am immensely grateful for the 60+ sample files that gave me the opportunity to learn from my mistakes. I would not have wanted to make the same mistakes on paid work. The knowledge and experience I'm gaining from transcription is helping me to better teach my kiddos as well!"
Elizabeth
"I just wanted to let you know that a company offered me a contract! I'm beyond excited!!!!! They were very impressed that I was a graduate from Transcribe Anywhere. Thank you so much for all you ladies have done for me. Now I can start my new career! Many blessings to you!!!"
Theresa
"I landed my first job this week (yay!) after conquering my fears, trepidation, and hesitation about making the leap out of practice mode. Nervous? Absolutely. Excited? YES! But I marshaled all the courage I possibly could, made a contact, and was hired almost immediately. I couldn't have made that jump or contacted that first potential client without the help, nudging, and encouragement from ALL members of the group and, most notably, through the guidance, knowledge, pep talks, and endless support from Janet and Marsha through this entire journey. This is a phenomenal course with unparalleled leadership - hands down! Happy Days ahead!"
Shelley
"I officially began my career as a transcriptionist today. I completed the first files for my first client, and I am simply over the moon! Thank you, Marsha and Janet, for everything. You handed me a map and guided me along the way. And the help of the collective genius of this support group is beyond measure. I only hope I can give back as much as I have received."
Araceli
"Thank you for your amazing training course. I took the final test a couple of weeks ago and this week I was able to obtain and complete my first two transcription jobs. The company was very impressed and gave very positive feedback. I owe my skills entirely to this course! Having this skill is allowing me to literally change my life and work from home, which is a dream I have had for years. I am so excited and appreciative of what I learned from Transcribe Anywhere."
Jeanna
"It wasn't a simple decision to commit my cash and time toward an education to perfect my transcription skills. But everything that I put into Transcribe Anywhere has paid off. The course was filled with relevant content. The instructors and community of students were always available for instructions and guidance. I worked at my pace. I was challenged, but encouraged. I put in the work and the course delivered. Within a couple of months, I had an entry-level job and was able to work on getting real experience. Soon after, I was hired at a better company making a good rate. These days, I have added additional subcontract work through the ongoing assistance and referral of staff at Transcribe Anywhere. I began with little confidence. Transcribe Anywhere gave me the opportunity to learn and train to a point where I felt confident I was qualified to apply for and succeed in gaining legitimate transcription employment. The reviews lauding Transcribe Anywhere did not lie and my trust was well placed."
Kevin
"I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Janet and Marsha and all the support staff for this amazing course and group. I feel the world is blessed to have people like you in it. You have given me a new lease on life and, for that, I am eternally grateful. Thank you to all my brethren in this group. You are all amazing people. I hope you all find much success in your endeavors. Sounds like I'm accepting an Oscar, doesn't it?"
Oliver
"I researched various online transcription programs, but I questioned the quality of the programs. This program for General Transcription by Transcribe Anywhere is finely crafted and worth the investment. When I began the course, I had my fears. But the course has a plethora of information, very detailed and thorough, and Janet has been an extremely patient and resourceful guide. I am grateful that such an excellent program exists and that it is reasonably priced. Now, I am very confident and I am looking into beginning the legal transcription course next."

Frequently Asked Questions

I thought medical transcription was a dying art?

You’re absolutely right that medical transcription has changed dramatically in recent years. However, Transcribe Anywhere does not offer medical transcription training. Our focus is on general and legal transcription—fields that are entirely separate from medical work.

General transcription serves a wide range of industries such as education, marketing, business, media, and entrepreneurship. You won’t be transcribing doctor’s notes or working within medical systems.

For a deeper look at how these fields differ, we recommend reading our post General Transcription vs. Medical Transcription.

Won't AI take over the need for transcriptionists?

AI has changed the industry, but it hasn’t replaced the need for skilled transcriptionists. In fact, technology still struggles with accents, crosstalk, background noise, technical terminology, and the many nuances of human speech. That’s why businesses, creators, legal professionals, and organizations continue to rely on trained human transcriptionists for accuracy and clarity.

Instead of replacing the role, AI has become a tool that can enhance your workflow. Many of our graduates use it to save time, streamline tasks, and increase their earnings—some even report doubling their income. Our courses include guidance on using today’s tools effectively and ethically so you stay competitive and efficient.

Can anyone do this?

Transcription isn’t for everyone, but many people can succeed with the right strengths. You’ll need patience, the ability to focus for extended periods, and a strong eye for detail. Accuracy matters, and much of the work involves careful listening and precise editing.

Because our courses are taught entirely in English and require a solid grasp of English grammar, punctuation, and usage, they are best suited for native speakers or those who are already highly proficient. This isn’t meant to exclude anyone—it’s simply the nature of the work. Students consistently tell us that grammar and punctuation are the most challenging parts of the training.

For a deeper look at the skills needed, see our detailed FAQ: Can Anyone Become a Transcriptionist?

Will I get rich?

Transcription isn’t a get-rich-quick path. But what you can gain is the freedom that comes with working from home, setting your own schedule, and doing meaningful, skill-based work.

Many transcriptionists value the flexibility, independence, and steady income potential far more than a traditional job structure.

How long do I have access to the course? Will updates be included?

You have lifetime access to the course, and all future updates are included at no additional cost. The training is completely self-paced, so you can move through the material on your own schedule without deadlines or pressure. You’ll never be rushed, and your access will never expire.

I'm scared I won't find any clients. Do you help me find work?

It’s completely normal to worry about finding clients—most students feel that way at the beginning. The good news is that your confidence grows tremendously once you’ve learned the skills and completed the practice levels. Solid training makes all the difference. Just like you wouldn’t try to sell cakes without knowing how to bake, you shouldn’t market transcription services until you know what you’re doing. Once the skills are in place, the fear starts to fade.

While we are not a job placement agency, we do provide everything you need to begin finding work. Your course includes step-by-step tutorials, videos, and practical guidance on:

  • applying to transcription companies,
  • finding and approaching clients,
  • building a simple website, and
  • marketing yourself confidently and professionally.

If you look at our People Who Use Transcriptionists series, you’ll see just how many industries rely on skilled transcriptionists. There is plenty of work out there—our role is to train you thoroughly so you’re ready to pursue it.

Is there a demand for transcription?

Absolutely. The demand for transcription remains strong—and continues to grow. With the explosion of online video, podcasts, virtual events, e-learning, and digital content, businesses across nearly every industry need accurate written transcripts for marketing, training, accessibility, SEO, and more.

Everyone from large production companies to small businesses, creators, educators, and corporate teams relies on skilled transcriptionists. As long as people are creating audio and video, there will be a need for high-quality transcripts.

For more detail, see our expanded FAQ on this topic and explore our People Who Use Transcriptionists series, which highlights the wide range of markets actively seeking transcription services.

Will I have support as a student?

Yes—absolutely. Our student community is one of the most supportive parts of the program. You’ll have access to guidance, encouragement, and answers to your questions as you work through the material. We’re here to help you stay confident and on track every step of the way.

What is the difference between legal and general transcription?

General transcription involves converting audio and video recordings into text for a wide range of industries—education, marketing, business, media, interviews, podcasts, and more. The work varies widely and covers many different subject areas.

Legal transcription requires all the same core skills but adds an additional layer of specialized knowledge. Legal transcriptionists work with legal terminology, court documents, depositions, hearings, and other law-related proceedings. Because the legal field has strict formatting and accuracy standards, the training is more specialized.

Both paths offer flexible opportunities, and the best fit depends on your interests and comfort level with legal material.

How much can I make as a transcriptionist?

Earnings vary based on experience, speed, accuracy, and the type of work you choose to take on. Many general transcriptionists earn around $45,000 per year, while legal transcriptionists often earn closer to $60,000.

If you choose to start your own transcription business and take on subcontractors—acting as a project manager rather than doing all the typing yourself—your income has the potential to grow well beyond these averages.
